Richard Owen

Richard comes from a background in IT project management and database development though he has spent the last 5 years of managing one of the nation’s most complex road safety partnerships; bringing together 16 public sector bodies with particular responsibility for overseeing infrastructure, strategy, performance management and finance.

With his academic training in geography, Richard has been responsible for significant developments in the application of GIS data mapping, but also general data development. This has taken analysis into new areas of spatial and thematic mapping of casualties and drivers and the study of socio-demographics in road safety.

Richard’s expertise in this area has resulted in a number of awards for projects he has worked on, and he has been widely used as a trainer, conference speaker and in the national media.  In 2015 Richard was the recipient of the Kevin Storey Award for Outstanding Commitment to Road Safety.

Richard currently sits on the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS) Road Environment Working Party.
